What Is TDS And Why Does It Matter

Good drinking water is essential for healthy living. But did you know that most of the commonly used water treatment plants today may still contain certain harmful chemicals like chloroform, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals? Because of this fact, it is especially important to rely on proper filtration processes that remove not only these byproducts but also other hazardous contaminants like total dissolved solids. TDS refers to the number of such solids that are dissolved in water and is measured as mg/l or parts per million (ppm).

How much tds in water is good for health, The concentration of mineral ions in water is known as Total Dissolved Solids or TDS. This refers to the total amount of charged mineral content in the water. TDS defines the purity and quality of water and can easily be determined by measuring the conductivity of the water sample in hand, which is exactly what most inexpensive TDS systems do.

Healthy water is pure and healthy to drink; but when water is not pure, it can be harmful. Tap water generally contains high levels of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), inorganic matter, and various other chemicals. The essential elements found in pure water that make it healthy are – sodium, potassium, hydrogen carbonate, silica, copper, magnesium, and calcium. The presence of many other chemicals in drinking water can go very bad for health. If the TDS level in water is more than 1000mg/L, it becomes unfit for consumption. Children being the more vulnerable type are more susceptible to contaminants that can be present in water.

You must know how much TDS is present in the water before you can start thinking about health problems caused by it. TDS levels in the water are tested by using a water tester. A water tester can be purchased from any Home Depot or a similar store that deals with home improvement products. After testing, you will be able to see how many mg/l of TDS (total dissolved solids) are present in water, and this is commonly referred to as conductivity

TDS in Water – A high TDS level results in an unfavourable salty or bitter taste in water. This also indicates the presence of toxic minerals. A low TDS level will indicate good quality water (soft water) which is preferred for drinking and cooking purposes. Soft water tastes better than hard water. Water with a TDS of around 5000- 10000 is considered good for health as it does not contain salt which can be unhealthy for the human body. The water that we drink must be soft so that it can be easily absorbed by the body. The more the number of milligrams per litre (mg/l) of TDS, the harder the water and the bigger is your concern in terms of health. In case you find the taste of hard water not appealing, there are quite many options to soften it up.

Water purifiers are one of the best ways to remove dangerous particles and chemicals from water. You can check water purifier price in India. When constantly tested for TDS, make sure to test your water regularly. You should keep a full tank of tap water before testing the water purification system so that the system is working optimally.

The fish needs to have the same level of TDS in the water just as they would in their original habitat otherwise they can not handle the change and this leads them to death. Monitoring TDS levels in pools and spas is a key part of pool maintenance to avoid any problems. This includes mineral scale buildup and skin-related allergies such as red eyes.
