Supreme court hearing – Shiv sena vs Shiv sena

The Supreme Court heard opening arguments in instances involving the disagreement between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde that resulted from a split within the Shiv Sena political party on Wednesday.

The bench adjourned the hearing until tomorrow morning after spending more than an hour listening to the senior attorneys representing both parties. The bench asked Senior Advocate Harish Salve, to rewrite the written submissions for greater clarity.

Petitioners from the Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray factions of the Shiv Sena party appeared before a bench that included Chief Justice of India, hima kohli. On July 20, a three-judge Supreme Court panel noted that a larger bench may need to be convened in order to address the problems raised by the petitions filed in connection with the Shiv Sena split. NV Ramana, Chief Justice of India, said verbally during the hearing that significant constitutional concerns arise in cases that would need to be decided by a larger bench. The CJI made it plain that the parties must first come up with the initial concerns and that he is not instantly forming the bench.

For the Uddhav group, senior attorneys Kapil Sibal and Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared. The Shinde group was represented by senior attorneys Harish Salve, Neeraj Kishan Kaul, and Mahesh Jethmalani. Tushar Mehta, the Indian government’s top lawyer, spoke on behalf of the governor of Maharashtra.
