Make Your Home Shine with These Cleaning Tips

Cleaning Tips

Are you keeping your home nice and tidy? While many people would say that their homes are the epitome of cleanliness, the truth is that places where we live, are much dirtier than we’d like to admit. This is because cleaning everything top to bottom takes a lot of hard work and patience, something we don’t always have time for. If you’re hoping to change that and make your home shine, we’re here to help you achieve this goal. We’ve put together a list of easy and helpful cleaning tips you can use to ensure your house is spotless.

Dishwasher cleaning tip

Dishwashers are something like our best friends in the kitchen because we don’t have to slave for hours over dirty pots, plates, and cutlery. Still, even though they do the dirty work for us, dishwashers should be occasionally deep cleaned too. This is because small pieces of food, soap, and grease make a bad combination that can have harmful bacteria. If you notice your dishes don’t smell as good after you take them out of the dishwasher, try using white vinegar and baking soda to clean the inside of the machine for better results. When you take the bottom rack out, remove any chunks of waste you notice, place a bowl of white vinegar on the top rack and run a cycle with the hottest water setting. Afterward, sprinkle baking soda on the bottom and run another short cycle.

Cast iron skillets cleaning tip

Cast iron skillets happen to be one of the most popular items to have in your kitchen, and for a good reason: it’s easy to prepare food in them in several ways, and they are incredibly durable. Sadly, they are also a nightmare to clean, which is why people might hesitate to buy and use them. By far, the best way to have them cleaned is to use simple oven cleaning foam because you won’t have to scrub the surface of the skillets (it’s not recommended you do it anyway). All you have to do is apply a generous coat of the foam to the skillet and let it soak in it for about four or five days (reapply the foam as needed). After this soaking period, you won’t have to scrub but merely wash the cleaner off and get perfect results.

Carpet cleaning tip

While carpets are perfect for keeping your floors in mint condition, getting the stains out of them is a real nightmare. Sometimes you can save the day by cleaning the spill immediately, but there are also stubborn spills that don’t go away no matter how hard you scrub. A great way to keep your carpets clean is to have door mats placed at the entrance so people can clean their shoes before they actually step inside. This will keep the mud and dirt of the outdoors at bay, leaving you to wrestle those stubborn ‘domestic’ stains instead. You can get these out by pouring cleaning liquid directly onto the stain, placing a cloth on it, and running a heated iron over the cloth. The heat combined with the cleaning liquid will do the trick.

Yellow pillows cleaning tip

Nobody wants to sleep on yellow stained pillows, but you don’t want to throw them out. You can get the stains out with powdered dishwasher and laundry detergent, and some borax. Pour a cup of both powdered laundry and dishwasher detergent in a big pot of boiling water, and add half a cup of borax. Once everything is dissolved, pour it into a big container and soak your pillows. After the pillows have been soaking for a while, wash them in a washing machine. Of course, the pillows have to be washable for this to work, so make sure you check the label before you attempt to use this method to clean them.

Stove burners cleaning tip

Cleaning stove burners is a tedious and often difficult task, but we have just the tip to make the task seem a breeze. You won’t have to spend hours scrubbing meticulously only to get mediocre results if you try using ammonia. Don’t forget that ammonia can be very dangerous so we advise caution when you use it anywhere in your household. Also, if you don’t clean it thoroughly, you risk getting traces of it into your food, so be meticulous when wiping the stove after scrubbing. Soak the ammonia on top of stove burners and let it sit for a while. To get better results, you can cover them with cookie sheets or aluminum foil. Dangerous ammonia fumes will do wonders on the burners without you having to scrub a lot.

Window cleaning tip

You should keep your windows clean not just because you are looking at the outside world through them, but because even people in the street can notice when they are dirty. Shuttered windows don’t get as dirty as shutter-less ones, but you should clean them at least twice a month. Glass windows, on the other hand, are easier to clean because you can use some cleaning solution and a polishing rag. If you have pets or small kids, you will likely have a lot of greasy hand and paw prints on your windows. The easiest solution is to use warm soapy water to remove the grease and then polish them with a clean rag. You can also clean the window tracks with earbuds dipped in vinegar – the vinegar easily takes off that stubborn grime.

Tiles cleaning tip

The ugly side of having to clean kitchen and bathroom tiles is the grout that often shows up between tiles. It is nasty to see and unhygienic, and unfortunately, people have to slave over their tiles for a long time to remove them. That being said, there are some easier methods you can try: baking soda and bleach, for example. Mix the two until you get a very thick paste, and apply it to the dirty parts. Leave it on for about ten minutes, and after that, you can gently scrub to remove it completely.

Even though you do laundry regularly and vacuum your floors, how often do you deep clean your oven and washing machine, for example? When you start implementing our tips, you will notice that your home is much easier to clean than before because doing many smaller tasks over a period of a few days accumulates and gives great results. What is more, you won’t feel as drained as you would if you waited and then tried to do everything in one day. Your home will look amazing when you find useful and easy cleaning tips.
