China relaxes visa requirements to benefit Indian students

More than two years into the pandemic, on August 22, 2022, China stated that Indian students would be permitted to seek for visas to return and resume their studies beginning on August 24.

On Monday, the Chinese Embassy in India and numerous other nations released updated visa application processes, which included a list of visa categories for applications for newly enrolled and returning students.

As of 2019, there were about 23,000 Indian students studying at Chinese universities. India was prohibited from entering China in November 2020 due to the pandemic. Immediate family members could finally travel in July when visa restrictions were finally loosened.

Obtaining a “certificate of returning to campus,” which is necessary for visa applications, is one hurdle for returning students.

Recently, students from Pakistan and Sri Lanka took chartered planes to China. This month, more than 100 Indian businessmen also booked a chartered trip on China Southern Airlines to get back to Yiwu, a major trading center. The governments of China and India are also negotiating the restart of direct flights, which have been suspended for almost two years.
